“Ideas of Federal Panel on Long-Term Care Don’t Include Costs”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The federal Commission on Long-Term Care met in September to offer aging Americans and their families a solution to the rising costs of home health care. However, the final report left the public with many unanswered questions and no clear direction. James Firman, president of the National Council on Aging, expressed his disappointment. “They kind of dodged the most important issue”.

Although the report made over 20 recommendations, commissioners were somewhat contradictory in their advice. While some suggested improvements to current standards in long-term care with the help of a publicly-funded program, others made it clear they would not support any addition to the health care budget.
