Preparing Family and Friends for a Visit with Your Loved One Living with Dementia

A diagnosis of dementia is a life-changing event, both for the person with the condition and their family members. It also affects family friends and those close to the person, as everyone has to adjust to new realities. Even simple things like stopping by for a quick cup of coffee can take on a whole new set of challenges.

And yet numerous studies have shown that socialization is a key component in brain health and helping people living with dementia lead more fulfilling and satisfying lives. Dementia doesn’t decrease the need for human contact and social interaction. So it’s important to help your loved one maintain a social life. Physical limitations may prevent your loved one from going out as much as they used to. In that case, invite people over, so your loved one has opportunities to be around people they know and love.
